Registration is open for the first annual Cameron Chancellor 5K to be held October 18th in Morrilton.  Proceeds from the race will benefit the Cameron Chancellor Scholarship Fund.  Registration can be made online at  There will be categories for runners and walkers.  Early bird entry fee is $25.  For more information, contact Tracie Flowers-Stobaugh at 215-7154.

The Abundant Life Pregnancy Resource Center in Morrilton will hold its annual Celebrate Life fundraising banquet October 24th at First Baptist Church in Morrilton.  There is no charge for individual tickets, but table sponsorships are available at various levels.  To become a sponsor or to RSVP, call 354-4141.

First Baptist Church in Center Ridge is holding a clothing closet every Wednesday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. and the first Saturday of every month from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.  The church is now accepting winter clothes donations for the closet.  For more information, call 242-1373.

The Morrilton High School Student Council is selling alumni t-shirts as a fundraiser to benefit the Conway County Care Center.  Order forms can be picked up at the MHS office, and shirts will be available for pick-up at the alumni tent at the Homecoming football game.  In addition, home décor paintings featuring several college sports teams and some Devil Dog items will be part of a silent auction that night.

There will be a meeting of the Morrilton Parks and Recreation Commission on Wednesday (9/17/14) at 5:15 p.m. at the ball complex conference room.

The regular meeting of the Morrilton Wastewater Utility Commission will be held Thursday (9/18/14) at 5:00 p.m. in the Wastewater Meeting Building.

The UACCM Theatre Department, in partnership with the Rialto Community Arts Center, will host auditions for their fall production of Charles Dickens' classic tale, "A Christmas Carol," on Thursday (9/18/14) at 6:00 p.m. in the UACCM Fine Arts Auditorium.  Auditions are open to the public.  There are over 30 parts available with roles for men, women and children.  For more information, contact Jim Harris at or 977-2118.

The Wonderview School Board will meet in regular session Thursday (9/18/14) at 7:00 p.m. in the Board Room.

The Solgohachia Lodge of Free Masons will meet Thursday (9/18/14) at 7:00 p.m.

NAACP (9/18/14)
The Conway County branch of the NAACP will host its regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday (9/18/14) at the Mt. Carmel Education Complex in Plumerville.

The Conway County Election Commission will meet Friday (9/19/14) at 9:00 a.m. in the first floor conference room at the courthouse in Morrilton to certify the annual school election.

The Plumerville Lodge of Free Masons will meet Friday (9/19/14) at 7:00 p.m.

American Legion Post 333 in Fairfield Bay will hold its annual golf classic on Saturday (9/20/14) at Indian Hills Golf Course in Fairfield Bay.  Registration for the four-person scramble starts at 8:00 a.m. with a 9:00 a.m. tee time.  All proceeds support veterans' organizations in Arkansas.  For more information, call the Indian Hills Pro Shop at 884-6018.

The Perry County Fair continues each night through Saturday (9/20/14) at the fairgrounds in Perryville.  The 4-H will hold the Robert Parish Premium Livestock Auction on Saturday at 9:00 a.m.  The 4-H poultry sale will follow at 11:00. CHURCH REVIVAL (9/21/14-9/24/14)
Bells Chapel Church of Christ, located four miles south of Atkins on Hwy. 324, is holding revival services Sunday (9/21/14) through Wednesday (9/24/14) with Brother Alex Mills delivering six messages on "The Glorious Church Jesus Built."  Sunday services include Bible Class at 10:00 a.m., sermon at 11:00, and a sermon at 1:30 following a free bbq lunch at the Matthews Center.  Services continue at 7:00 p.m. Monday through Wednesday.

GOSPEL MEETING (9/21/14-9/26/14)
Center Ridge Church of Christ on Hwy. 9 in Center Ridge will hold Gospel Meetings Sunday (9/21/14) through Friday (9/26/14) at 7:00 each night.  The speaker is Tom Hartaway of North Little Rock.

The County Board of St. Vincent Morrilton will meet Monday (9/22/14) at 12:00 p.m. in the Outpatient Clinic Building.

QUORUM COURT (9/22/14)
The Conway County Quorum Court will meet Monday (9/22/14) at 6:00 p.m. at the courthouse in Morrilton.  The Budget and Finance Committee will meet just prior to the meeting at 5:30.

The Arkansas River Valley Audubon Society will meet Monday (9/22/14) at 7:00 p.m. at Dardanelle State Park Visitor Center.  The guest speaker will be Dan Sheiman, Arkansas' only ornithologist.  Guests are welcome and refreshments will be served.

The South Conway County Public School Foundation will hold its 15th annual "Race to the Future" fundraising dinner on Tuesday (9/23/14) at 6:30 p.m. in the Morrilton High School cafeteria.  Dinner tickets are $25 each and several sponsorship levels are available.  For more information, call Sarah Ryals at 208-2826 or Katherine Foust at 354-4054.

The Morrilton Historic District Commission will meet Wednesday (9/24/14) at 4:30 p.m. in the small conference room at City Hall.

CAR SHOW (9/24/14-9/27/14)
The 17th annual Fall Antique Auto Swap Meet at The Museum of Automobiles on Petit Jean Mountain will take place Wednesday (9/24/14) through Saturday (9/27/14).  Admission is free to the public.  There is a $30 registration fee for Saturday's open car show.  The event also includes a Military Vehicle Rally, and driving and individual activities will be conducted Friday and Saturday.  For more information, call the museum at 727-5427.

There will be a public hearing to discuss an amendment to an ordinance to allow permitting sites for multiple dogs in Morrilton on Thursday (9/25/14) at 5:30 p.m. in the City Council Meeting Room.  A meeting of the Planning and Zoning Commission will immediately follow the hearing.

The Springfield Lodge of Free Masons will meet Thursday (9/25/14) at 7:00 p.m.

PJSP CLEANUP (9/27/14)
Petit Jean State Park will hold its annual Great Arkansas Cleanup event on Saturday (9/27/14).  Registration is from 8:00-10:00 a.m. with the cleanup continuing until noon, at which time there will be lunch and prize drawings at Pavilion A.

The annual Oppelo Homecoming will be held Saturday (9/27/14), beginning at 10:00 a.m.  A museum of Oppelo pictures and other memorabilia will be set up in City Hall.  Flea market booths will be set up on the grass south of the building.  Other activities include knifemaking by Jamie McCoy, book signings, and Smart 911.  There will also be live entertainment and hourly drawings for prizes.  For more information, call Euna Beavers at 354-4428 or Bobbie Anderson at 354-5721.

BOOK SIGNING (9/27/14)
Morrilton author Aimee Nordin McClaren will be signing copies of her newly-published fiction book "The Secret of Avalon" on Saturday (9/27/14) from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the new Christian Supply Bookstore, located next to Old Navy in Conway.  McClaren's daughter, Aimee Dawn, will also be signing copies of her book, "Rundown." 

The Atkins Fire Department will host a chili cookoff during the Arkansas Razorbacks' football game against Alabama on October 11th to benefit People for a Better Atkins and the Atkins Fire Association.  The event will start at kickoff and the game will be shown live.  There will also be kids' games and door prizes.  An entry form and rules are available at or at  The Atkins Chronicle, Elmo Haney's Pharmacy or Tan n Tone.  The cost to enter is $20 and the deadline to enter is Friday (10/3/14).

Fall Fest at Wonderview School will be held Saturday (10/4/14) beginning at 5:00 p.m.  The march will be at 8:00 p.m.  Tickets will be sold for cash prizes of $400, $200 and $100.

Sacred Heart Catholic School will hold its annual Octoberfest on Saturday (10/4/14).  A bake sale starts at 4:00 p.m.  The all-you-can-eat turkey and dressing dinner will be served from 5:00-8:00 p.m. with carryouts available from 4:00-5:30.  The event will also be host to games for all ages and a silent auction until 8:30 p.m.  Tickets will be sold for cash prizes of $500, $300 and $100.
