Community Calendar

Morrilton Parks and Recreation's youth baseball and softball registration is now open.  The cost is $50 for one child, $90 for two children and $120 for three children.  You can register your children and size them for uniforms at the Parks and Recreation Office at the City Park Ball Field Complex weekdays from 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. and 1:00-4:30 p.m.  Registration continues through February 18th.

The Morrilton City Council Street Committee will meet Wednesday (1/28/15) at 2:30 p.m. in the City Hall Meeting Room.

The Morrilton Historic District Commission will meet Wednesday (1/28/15) at 4:30 p.m. at the Wastewater Building on Chestnut Street.

BARN RAISING (1/29/15)
The Morrilton Area Chamber of Commerce will host a "barn raising" event to recruit committee members for the Grow Morrilton initiative.  The event will take place Thursday (1/29/15) from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Chamber office in downtown Morrilton.

The Conway County Extension Service will host a private pesticide applicator training session on Thursday (1/29/15) at 6:00 p.m. in the Fine Arts Auditorium of the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton.  There is a $10 fee payable at the door.  For more information, call the Extension Office at 354-9618.

Mountain View Baptist Church atop Woolverton Mountain will host its fifth Thursday Gospel singing on Thursday (1/29/15) at 7:00 p.m.  A potluck meal will be served following the singing.

Morrilton High School will host its Pink Out Night for cancer awareness during the February 10th basketball games against Clarksville.  The Lady Devil Dogs basketball team is selling long-sleeve shirts for $15 and short-sleeve shirts for $10 with a portion of all proceeds going to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.  The deadline to order and pay for shirts is Friday (1/30/15).

BOOK SIGNING (1/31/15)
Local authors Aimee Dawn and Aimee Nordin McClaren will host a book signing on Saturday (1/31/15) from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at Hastings in Conway.  Aimee McClaren will feature her latest release, "The Secret of Avalon."  Aimee Dawn will feature her newest book, "Rundown."

ABATE 17 MEETING (2/3/15)
ABATE 17 will meet Tuesday (2/3/15) at 6:00 p.m. at Smitty's Bar-B-Que in Conway.  All riders and motorcycle enthusiasts are welcome.

A Morrilton High School Project Graduation meeting will be held Tuesday (2/3/15) at 7:30 p.m. at the North Plaza Cinema party/dance room.  All parents and guardians of MHS seniors are encouraged to attend.  The group is also selling "Devil Dog for Life" t-shirts.  Orders can be made by calling Darla Rankin at 289-1216.

Dr. Lydia Trauth will conduct a presentation on "Women's Heart Health" on Wednesday (2/4/15) at noon in the small dining room of The Plaza at the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton.  The presentation is open to the public and attendees can purchase plate or boxed lunches from The Plaza.

BLOOD DRIVE (2/5/15)
The American Red Cross will host a blood drive on Thursday (2/5/15) from 11:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. at Green Bay Packaging's Arkansas Kraft Division in Morrilton.

The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton will host the Philander Smith College choir as its guests for Black History Month.  The choir will perform at a free community event in the Fine Arts Auditorium at UACCM on Thursday (2/5/15) at 6:30 p.m.

BAKE/GARAGE SALE (2/6/15-2/7/15)
VFW Post 4453 in Morrilton is holding a bake sale and garage sale at the post headquarters in the city park on Friday (2/6/15) and Saturday (2/7/15).  Proceeds will be used to support the lunch program and other activities.  Donated items are being accepted for the garage sale.

The Cherry Hill Volunteer Fire Department will host its annual chili supper on Saturday (2/7/15) from 4:00-6:00 p.m.  There will be no per plate charge, but donations will be accepted.

The GFWC Adelaide Club will hold its annual Sweetheart Dinner and Dance on Saturday (2/7/15) at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Morrilton.  Dinner, catered by the Knights, will start at 7:00 p.m.  Tickets are $30 per person.  The event also includes a silent auction.  For tickets or more information, contact any member or call Katherine Foust at 354-4054.
