The Morrilton Police Department is offering information to anyone wishing to establish Neighborhood Watch Programs in the city. Any person, organization or neighborhood group wishing to establish such a program should contact Chief Norbert Gunderman or Lt. Curtis Russell at 354-0131.

St. Anthony’s Medical Center offers diabetes education classes for those interested in learning about diabetes care and pre-diabetes. New classes start every month. They include ten hours of diabetes education for new on-set diabetes patients and patients with uncontrolled blood sugar. The classes are covered by Medicare and most major insurance companies. CLASS REUNION (TFN)

The Morrilton High School Class of 1993 Reunion Committee is trying to locate addresses for all the 1993 graduates so that formal invitations and details can be mailed for the reunion to be held August 29th and 30th.  To ensure you are on the list, call Susie at 501-940-1475 or Meleah at 501-650-0422.

DISASTER ASSISTANCE (THRU 7/8/08)

Conway County residents who sustained property damage during the severe storms of June 9 and 13 are eligible for state disaster assistance.  Residents may apply for assistance by calling 1-877-828-3362 or by visiting the Department of Human Services office in Morrilton.  The deadline to apply for assistance is July 8.

HORSEBACK RIDING CAMP (THRU 7/9/08)

Barnyard Friends and Stables on Petit Jean Mountain is hosting a series of horseback riding day camps this summer for kids age 7-17.  The remaining dates for the camps are July 9-11, July 16-18, and July 21-23.  Activities include riding instruction, stable management, trail riding, horse grooming, tack and saddle care, and horse stories.  Registration is $70 per day and $60 for a second child.  For more information, call 208-7287.

IS CLASS (THRU 7/12/08)

The Conway County Office of Emergency Management and ADEM will be hosting IS 300 on July 12-13 and IS 400 on July 26-27.  The classes are one day long, from 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.  If you take a class on the 12th and 26th, you will not have to take it on the 13th and 27th.  The classes count toward continuing education for EMS and Fire Personnel.  If you would like to attend any of the classes, please call the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management at 501-683-6751.

SCHOOL ELECTION (THRU 7/18/08)

The annual School Board Election will be held September 16.  Petitions may be picked up at the county clerk's office from 7:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Completed petitions must be returned to the county clerk's office July 11-18.
 
LCP SIGN-UP (THRU 7/18/08)

July 18th is the deadline for livestock producers to enroll in the 2005-2007 Livestock Compensation Program and Livestock Indemnity Program.  For more information, call the Conway County Farm Service Agency at 354-2000.

TALENT CONTEST (THRU 7/19/08)

Brents and Sons Heating and Air presents "Conway County Has Talent!" at the Rialto Theater on July 19th, from 6:00-9:00 p.m.  The entry fee is $25 per group or individual.  A $5 minimum donation will be taken at the door.  Prize money will be given to the top three finishers.  Registration forms are available at Brents and Sons Heating and Air in Morrilton.

SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT (THRU 7/31/08)

The Kiwanis Club's co-ed softball tournament will be held Thursday (7/31/08) through Saturday (8/2/08).  All teams interested in entering should contact Patti Franklin at Arvest Bank in Morrilton.

DCP ENROLLMENT (THRU 9/30/08)

Enrollment into the 2008 Direct and Counter-Cyclical Program is now underway.  The deadline for farmers to enroll a 2008 DCP contract in September 30th.  Enrollment is by appointment.  You will need to allow extra time during sign-up due to a review of all records for both operator and landlord.    To make an appointment, call the Conway County FSA office at 354-2000, ext. 2.

BINGO (EVERY MONDAY) 

The Morrilton Knights of Columbus hosts Bingo every Monday at the KC Hall on North Cedar Street. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. Games start at 7:00. Concessions are available. All proceeds go to Sacred Heart School and other local charities. 

FARMERS MARKET (EVERY SATURDAY)

The Conway County Farmer's Market is open every Saturday at the parking lot north of the Conway County Courthouse.

RELAY FOR LIFE FUNDRAISER (7/3/08)

The Arvest Bank Relay for Life team will have a fundraiser in the bank lobby on Thursday (7/3/08).  There will be cotton candy, cookies, Kool-Aid, prizes, and toys for kids.

DISABLED VETERANS (7/3/08)

Morrilton's Chapter 13 of the Disabled Veterans will hold its regular monthly meeting at 10:00 a.m. Thursday (7/3/08) at the Conway County Courthouse.  Coffee and donuts will be served starting at 9:30.  Any disabled veterans interested in joining the Morrilton chapter can call Chapter Commander Herb Hesselbein at 354-9628 or John Baugh at 354-2488.

GOSPEL SINGING (7/3/08)

A Gospel singing will be held at the Plumerville United Methodist Church at 7:00 p.m. Thursday (7/3/08).  The public is invited to attend and participate.

PIG OUT SHIRTS (THRU 7/4/08)

Due to heavy rainfall that affected turnout at this past weekend's Great Arkansas Pig Out festival, there are a large number of shirts left over.  These can be purchased at a deep discount at Merle Norman and More in downtown Morrilton.

FIREWORKS ALLOWED (7/4/08)

Mayor Bobby Kirby has announced that fireworks will be allowed in the city of Morrilton on Friday (7/4/08) from 12 noon until 11:00 p.m.

C-4 CLOSED (7/4/08)

The Conway County Community Center will be closed Friday (7/4/08) for the Independence Day holiday.

LANDFILL CLOSED (7/4/08-7/5/08)

The Morrilton Landfill will be closed Friday (7/4/08) and Saturday (7/5/08), and city hall will be closed Friday (7/4/08) for Independence Day.

FUN AND GAMES DAY (7/4/08)

Petit Jean State Park will host Fun and Games Day on Friday (7/4/08).  A parade will begin at 9:00 a.m. at the boathouse and pass through the campgrounds.  Games begin at 10:00 and continue throughout the day.  The event concludes with a concert by local musician Brandon Robertson at 7:30 p.m.

FABULOUS FOURTH (7/4/08)

The community's Fabulous Fourth celebration will take place Friday (7/4/08) from 5:00-9:00 p.m. at Cherokee Park.  There will be activities and games for all ages, free food, entertainment, and a fireworks display.  Admission is free and everyone is invited.

PLUMERVILLE MASONIC LODGE (7/4/08)

The Plumerville Masonic Lodge will hold its stated meeting on Friday (7/4/08) at the lodge hall in Plumerville at 7:00 p.m.

CEMETERY MEETING (7/5/08)

A public meeting to discuss and build an implementation plan for preserving St. John Cemetery will take place Saturday (7/5/08) from 10:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Mt Carmel Missionary Baptist Church Education Building in Plumerville.

BIBLE SCHOOL (7/6/08-7/11/08)

Calvary Baptist Church will be hosting Vacation Bible School Sunday (7/6/08) through Friday (7/11/08) from 6:00-8:30 p.m. each night.  The theme is "Outrigger Island."  Everyone is invited.  For more information, call the church office at 354-2117.

EARLY VOTING (THRU 7/7/08)

Early voting is now open for the Menifee special sales tax election.  This is for voters in the city of Menifee only.  Early voting will continue through Thursday (7/3/08), be closed Friday (7/4/08) for the holiday and will be open Monday (7/7/08) from 7:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m.  Election Day is Tuesday (7/8/08).

ART CLASS (THRU 7/7/08)

Registration and pre-payment for the watercolor art classes to be held July 14-18 at the Rialto Gallery needs to be turned in soon.  To register, call Dorothy Imhauser at 354-4347.  To send in registration form, mail to 1126 S. Bridge St., Morrilton, AR 72110.  Classes are $25 for ages 6-11 and $50 for ages 12 and up.

SWIM LESSONS (7/7/08)

The Conway County Community Center will be offering American Red Cross/WSI swim lessons starting Monday (7/7/08).  Cost is $30 per child.  For more information, call 354-4122.

AIRPORT MEETING (7/7/08)

The Morrilton Municipal Airport Commission will meet Monday (7/7/08) at 5:15 p.m. at the airport.

DEPOT AND GENEALOGY MEETIINGS (7/7/08)

The Morrilton Depot Museum and Conway County Genealogy Association groups will meet Monday (7/7/08) at the Depot Museum for their regular monthly meetings.  The Depot members will meet at 6:30 p.m. and the genealogy members will meet following the program.  The joint program at 7:00 p.m. will be given by Gayle McKuin Fiser of Little Rock.

4-H DAY CAMP (7/8/08)

The Perry County 4-H is having an Entra What? day camp on Tuesday, July 15, from 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. at the Perry County multipurpose building.  The camp is designed to teach 9-12 year-olds about finance.  There is no charge, but participants will need to provide their own lunch and will need to pre-register by Tuesday (7/8/08) by calling Ed Brown at 889-2661.

BUTTERFLIES (7/8/08)

The Conway County Library will host a "Butterflies" program for all ages on Tuesday (7/8/08) from 2:00-3:00 p.m.

PICTURE THE PAST (7/10/08)

"Other People's Garbage" is the final topic examined in the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute's 2007-2008 "Picture the Past" archeology film and lecture series.  The event will take place Thursday (7/10/08) at 7:00 p.m. in the Institute's Legacy Theater. For more information, visit www.uawri.org.

TASTE-N-BAKE (7/11/08)

The Max Milam Library's Summer Taste-N-Take program will be held on Saturday (7/12/08) from 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m.  To participate, submit a recipe to the library in advance, prepare your dish that morning, and join in the tasting party.  Only those participating will be allowed to taste.  Recipes must be turned in before noon on Friday (7/11/08).  Everyone participating will receive a cookbook to take home.  For more information, call the library at 889-2554.

BIBLE SCHOOL (7/14/08-7/18/08)

Vacation Bible School at Lonoke Missionary Baptist Church on Highway 9 will be held Monday (7/14/08) through Friday (7/18/08) from 6:30-8:30 p.m.  The theme is "The Olympics, the Good News Games."  Everyone age three through the 12th grade are invited to attend.  For more information, call 354-5228 Monday through Thursday.

VOLLEYBALL PRACTICE (7/14/08)

Morrilton seventh grade volleyball will have practice on Monday, July 14th; Thursday, July 24th; and Monday, July 28th, at 9:00 a.m. at the high school gym.  All girls wanting to play seventh grade volleyball next season should attend these practices.

TWO RIVERS SCHOOL BOARD (7/14/08)

The Two Rivers School District will hold its regular board meeting on Monday (7/14/08) at 7:30 p.m. in the Plainview Home Ec room.

SUMMER READING FINALE (7/17/08)

The Conway County Library will have the finale of its Summer Reading Program on Thursday (7/17/08) at 2:00 p.m. with a  Kindersongs Concert.

GOSPEL CONCERT (7/18/08)

The Cox Family Reunion Gospel concert featuring The Racy Brothers will be held Friday (7/18/08) at 7:00 p.m. at the Rialto Theater.  Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door.  For tickets, contact Pastor Bryan Cox at 501-908-2426.

ST. MARY BAZAAR (7/19/08)

St. Mary Catholic Church in Saint Vincent will have its annual bazaar on Saturday (7/19/08) from 4:00-10:00 p.m.  An all-you-can-eat BBQ beef dinner will be served from 4:00-8:00.  The midway opens at 5:00 with other food and games, bake sale, silent auction, and farmers market.

4-H DAY CAMP (7/31/08)

The Perry County 4-H will have an Arts and Crafts day camp on Thursday, August 7, from 9:00 a.m.-noon at the Perry County multipurpose building.  There will be a minimal registration cost.  Participants must pre-register by calling the Extension Office at 889-2661.
